Shikhar Dhavan and Sunrisers Hyderabad!
‘Waqt se pehle aur kismet se badkar kuch nahi milta’….translated as “Before time and more then destiny, we don’t get anything”…having said that both time and destiny seem to be praising Shikhar Dhavan who had unleashed his batting prowess by scoring the fastest century on test debut. The young lad scored his maiden test century with just 85 deliveries on 16th March 2013 against Australia at Mohali.
Let’s understand a bit more about Shikhar Dhavan the ‘new uncut diamond’ in the Indian Cricket Team. Born on the 5th of July 1985 in Delhi, Shikhar is a left handed opening batsman and an occasional right arm off break bowler. In spite of doing really well in the 2004 U-19 tournament and being named player of the tournament for his performance, it took Shikhar almost a decade to make his test debut in 2013 and get noticed nationally and globally.
Now with the IPL going to be kicked off in less than 15 days, he is surely going to be among the sought after hot-shots and valuable players to watch out for their sheer talent. Sunrisers Hyderabad who are themselves making their debut as a team are surely going to have high expectations and will expect Shikhar to leverage or even replicate his recent wham-bam test performance.
Bought by the ‘Sunrisers’ for a paltry sum of 300,000$ one can safely say that if he repeats his test performance his brand and player equity is going to tremendously increase to XXX value. Playing in the IPL is already pressurizing for most players, in-fact players are commoditized (I had my reservations against the commoditization as posted in earlier blogs) and a high value player like Shikhar will be expected to perform under the floodlights.
On a concluding note, I do not doubt his ability to score well, however let’s hope that the sun shines on him once again and he along with the other players at Sunrisers Hyderabad do really well in this IPL’s 6th season.
